“Zion,” Beverly Trader’s epic play with music, depicts the 30-year struggle of parishioners in Marietta, Ga., to establish one of the earliest black churches in the United States. The play, a sprawling hybrid of historical drama and gospel pageantry, begins in 1836 and spans the Civil War.
