Macbeth revived Orson Welle’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth (popularly “Voodoo Macbeth”) which the young director mounted in 1936 for the original Federal Theatre Project’s Negro Theatre Group. This was an enormous hit in 1936 (as well as 1977).
