The show was first produced by Woodie King for the New Federal Theatre, then by Joseph Papp at the Public. The Broadway production was presented by Joseph Papp and Woodie King, Jr. at the Booth Theatre, a New York Shakespeare Festival Production in association with New Federal Theatre.
