Court Martial at Fort Devens

Based on real events, the play tells the story of Ginny Boyd (Nambi E. Kelley), a young African-American woman who—heeding a call to arms from Eleanor Roosevelt—gives up a good office job in the U.S. Treasury Department to join the Women’s Army Corps (more commonly known by its acronym, the WACs). The First Lady pushed for the inclusion of African-American women, promising all who joined job training, chiefly as medical technicians, that would give them a better future after the war.

The production won five 2012 Audelco Awards for Best Ensemble Production; Jeffrey Sweet, Playwright; Mary Beth Easley, Director; Mark Bruckner, Sound Design; and Ali Turns, Costume Design.

Presented as part of the 2011-12 Season

Play opened March 1, 2012 at the Castillo Theatre
