Nabil Viñas (AEA) is an award-winning, NYC based actor, whose short film “Program” had its world premiere at the 55th New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center, and played HBO’s New York Latino Film Festival among others worldwide. He produced and acted in the feature film “Tomorrow Ever After” which screened theatrically in 5 cities, earning critical acclaim in major press including the LA Times, Hollywood Reporter and Village Voice. TV roles include Young Benito Mussolini in the emmy-nominated miniseries “The World Wars” (History).
He was named BEST ACTOR by Atlas & Aeris, an international magazine for independent film for his work in short film “The Cat’s Cradle”. Other Acting Awards for that performance include OUTSTANDING DUO (Sanford Int’l Film Fest) and BEST ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE (Indieworks, NYC).
Nabil is a 2019 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellow in Screenwriting from The New York Foundation for the Arts. His feature screenplay “Los Malos” (The Bad Ones) was named a quarterfinalist for the Screencraft Fellowship. And his short film “Come Back Hailey” earned NYC screenings including the Big Apple, Bronx International, Inwood, and Queens World Film Festivals.
With a background in theatre, Nabil is an ensemble member of the Barefoot Theatre Company, official member of Poetic Theater Productions, a co-founding member of The Seven Collective, and frequent collaborator with TÉA Creative. Theatre credits include Classical Theatre of Harlem, Harlem Repertory Theatre, New Federal Theatre, Cleveland Play House, and the central role in Poetic Theater’s award-winning play “Goliath”.
Born to Dominican parents in Washington Heights NYC, Nabil is a proud native New Yorker who spoke only Spanish until age five. A prodigious student, he skipped 8th grade to attend high school a year early, and turned down a college wrestling scholarship to go into the performing arts. He’s a proud alumnus of The City College of New York, where he studied Mathematics and Theatre.
A dedicated human rights advocate, Nabil took part in the launch of UN Women’s #HeForShe campaign, an initiative encouraging men to stand up for gender equality. He currently helps bring restorative practices to NYC schools via Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility. –NabilVinas.com
