Joseph Edward is an actor, playwright, artist and educator of diverse talents.
Joseph adapted Claude Brown’s classic autobiography Manchild in the Promised Land into a one-man show, originally presented at the American Place Theatre, where it earned an AUDELCO award nomination. Joseph has continued to perform it at numerous venues, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
Joseph won three AUDELCO awards for his critically acclaimed Off-Broadway production of FLY, a comedy he both wrote and performed. FLY was also presented at the National Black Theater Festival in North Carolina and at the HBO Performance Space in Los Angeles.
Edward is a passionate activist for reparations for the descendants of enslaved Africans. In 2021, he founded The African Diaspora Arts and Sciences Institute whose mission is to illuminate the beauty, brilliance, and humanity of African people through the performing arts.
