Notice in the New York Gay Men’s Chorus Alumni Association, May 31, 2020
Sad news to report. Former Chorus member, Gregg Payne, has passed away this month.
He sang with NYCGMC for two concerts in 1991, but went on to lead the Lavender Light Gospel Choir for many years. He led his choir as guests on stage with NYCGMC several times and also appeared as guest soloist for our 20th Anniversary commission – Gay Century Songbook.
He performed a rousing rendition of Sister Hallie Lujah at the Harlem Drag Ball.
A consummate musician and choral director, his talent will be missed. His appearance with Lavender Light at the quadrennial GALA Festivals was an eagerly awaited performance by all attendees.
