Fred Voelpel, born in 1927, was a Scenic, Lighting, and Costume designer who graduated from the Yale School of Drama in 1953. He was extremely active in New York from 1960 until 1981. He designed two Pulitzer Prize winning plays in New York: Seascape and The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds. For Marigolds, he won the NY Critics Award, Variety Critics Poll, and a TONY nomination. Overall, Playbill’s database lists 50 credits in 33 plays (Broadway and Off-Broadway).
