Stanley Greene Sr, was an actor, producer, filmmaker and director. A political activist, he was devoted to black culture, and had been blacklisted as a communist for his union activism. His career as an actor during much of the 1950s until the 60s was reduced to taking anonymous bit parts.

Stanley Greene was born on April 17, 1911 in New York City. He was married to Javotee Sutton (also an actress), and their son, Stanley Greene, Jr. became a highly-regarded photojournalist who specialized in conflict and disasters .

Stanley Greene Sr. died on July 4, 1981 in New Rochelle, New York.
