Kate, a theatremaker and poet, believes storytelling is at the heart of community. She is the Founding Artistic Director of Threadbare Theatre Workshop, which illuminates epics in a simple way through the magic of resourceful storytelling— making theatre from scratch in rural places with local people.
In 2018, she was invited as a Visiting Artist to Haystack Mountain School of Crafts to develop The Royal Tar, an original, community-devised play inspired by a true story that has become legend up and down the Maritimes. In addition to adapting and directing original stage adaptations of Moby-Dick and The Waste Land, Kate has directed such plays as Sarah Kane’s Crave, Jordan Harrison’s Marjorie Prime, and the first multilingual Korean-American presentation of The Vagina Monologues.
Kate is an Emerging Leader of NY Arts fellow and has been named one of Creative Capital’s “Artists To Watch”. She has performed in film and television as well as off-broadway and regionally for over a decade. As a teaching artist, she has collaborated with students from up and down the east coast to London, England, and throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Her work as a performer, director, and writer has been featured in The New York Times, VICE, and Recipes for Self-Love.
She is a proud member of the Stage Directors & Choreographers Foundation Observership class and Actor’s Equity Association. Over the years, Kate has worked for such organizations as the Vineyard Theatre, McCarter Theatre Center, and Theatre Communications Group. She holds a BFA in Theatre Arts from Rutgers and spent a year-long residency at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre when Mark Rylance was at the helm.
Before moving to downeast Maine, Kate served as Smack Mellon’s “Art Ready” Program Manager in Brooklyn— a city she called home for twelve years. She is currently in residence with the Threadbare collective at Carding Brook Farm on the Blue Hill peninsula.
