Mantee M. Murphy

Mantee M. Murphy of Ontario, Canada and formerly of Syracuse, New York passed this life on August 12, 2009 in Canada. Mantee was a loved son, uncle and friend.

Singing, acting, dancing, he lived to perform and that he did. Armed with a B.A. from LeMoyne College and a Masters from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communication, Mantee set out to make a name for himself. A member of the Canadian Theatre Union and the Canadian Film & Television Union he obtained roles on the TV films, Oh Kanada and Smooth Criminal, played a principal part in the TV film Life and had acting roles in the films Talk to Me, and Get Rich or Die Tryin.

He’s also had TV roles on the Underground Railroad: Next Stop Freedom, Little Mosque On the Prairie, History Bites, and Radio Free Roscoe.

Mantee took the stage in productions of Dreamgirls, The Full Monty, Five Guys Named Moe, Little Shop of Horrors, Ain’t Misbehavin, Anowa, Big River, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Testimony (Off Broadway), Dream Deferred: Tribute to Langston Hughes and Ma Raineys Black Bottom.

His most recent TV credit, Little Mosque On The Prairie, will be airing this fall on local Canadian television. Mantee also had a wonderful voice and sang with a local group called The Mantees and later formed his own band called Mantee and the Shy Guys performing at various venues throughout Canada.

Before hitting the stage and settling in down in Canada, Mantee left his mark at a few of the local colleges working at SUNY Oswego, Morrisville, Fredonia and Canton in the Admissions or Minority Affairs Office. He will be remembered most for his 100-watt smile and generous spirit.
