Gordon Edelstein was Long Wharf Theatre’s Artistic Director from 2002-2018. He was fired following allegations of sexual misconduct.
He worked as a director/artistic director in theatre for nearly 30 years. Prior to Long Wharf, he served as Artistic Director of ACT Theatre in Seattle, as well as Associate Artistic Director for both Long Wharf and Berkshire Theatre Festival.
Mr. Edelstein has directed countless plays and workshops for Long Wharf including the world premieres of BFE (transfer to Playwrights Horizons), The Day the Bronx Died (transfer to NY and London), A Dance Lesson, and The Times, as well as We Won’t Pay! We Won’t Pay!, A New War, A Moon for the Misbegotten, Anna Christie, The Front Page, and Mourning Becomes Electra, starring Jane Alexander.
For television, Mr. Edelstein received an Emmy nomination for Abby My Love (EMMY Award for Best Actor Josh Hamilton) for CBS, directed Notes For My Daughter (EMMY Award for Best Actress Kate Burton) for ABC, and for HBO he directed Street Smart.
He has taught and guest lectured at the Yale School of Drama, Yale Department of Bioethics, University of Iowa, Grinnell College, and Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle.
