Jean Barker was born in Philadelphia in December, 1920. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, and studied acting with Lee Strasberg, Mira Rostova, and the American Theatre Wing.
She debuted off-Broadway in Bold Soprano in 1953, and on Broadway in The Inkeepers, which opened in February, 1956.
