Yolanda Karr, an actress who played many lead and featured roles on stage and television, died of cancer on Mon., June 9, at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York. She was 66.Join Backstage to access work from home jobs you can apply to right now!
Among the plays Karr appeared in were “Boesman & Lena” (Best Actress, New Jersey Drama Critics Association), “Jamaica” (Audelco Award), and “Daddy’s Home” (Spotlight Award nominee). Her television appearances included “Law & Order” and “The Equalizer.” She also enjoyed roles in such films as “Ragtime,” “Moscow on the Hudson,” and “The Preacher’s Wife.”
A Philadelphia native, Karr earned her degree from the University of Pennsylvania before training at the American Conservatory Theatre with Lou Gossett and Max Glanville.
A jazz memorial service will be held at the Robeson Funeral Home, 396 Gates Ave., Brooklyn, NY, on Sat., June 28, at 12 noon.
