Miss Dee has written an inspirational parable, with more than a hint of “Green Pastures” in it. In this case, De Lawd is called Almight; and he is played by Ossie Davis who, incidentally, played an Angel in the 1951 revival of “Green Pastures.”
Almight, discouraged with the state of the world, is inclined to destroy it, but he sends down an angel — played by Miss Dee — to round up the few good souls around. She takes on her mission with zeal; from rounding up, she goes on to converting, and almost manages to save everybody.
Her antagonists are a sinister capitalist who runs the Kuhnchase Bank, and the frivolousness and gullibility of the crowd of characters who represent humanity and who inhabit Twin‐Bit Gardens, a kind of Everyslum. – NY Times Review
