What the Wine-Sellers Buy started as a 1972-3 production at NFT, and then reopened at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre presented by the New York Shakespeare Festival Lincoln Center, Joseph Papp, producer in association with Woodie King, Jr. Woodie also directed a production in 1975 at the Fisher Theatre in Ann Arbor, MI.
Set in Hastings Street community of Detroit, the plot centers on a high-school-aged couple who are faced with decisions of what to do with their lives and how to support their families, while dealing with a slick neighborhood pimp/pusher who has ideas of his own about their future.
