There is limited information about Carles Cleveland on the Internet. From the little information we can find, his career in the theatre was principally as a playwright, collaborating with James de Jongh in such plays as Hail, Hail the Gangs! and Play to Win a 1989 musical based on the life of Jackie Robinson the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball player. The show won the 1984 Audelco Award for “best writing of a new show by black authors for the noncommercial theater.”
From the NY Times Review:
The play, by Carles Cleveland and James de Jongh, is a joyous and very smart celebration not only of one man but of a nation and its favorite pastime as well.
